Q: What is the ETH Alumni email forwarding address?
The email forwarding address offers you the easiest way to stay in contact with other alumni, no matter where in the world you are, no matter how often your employer, your address  or your email address changes. You can use the same email address for your whole life.

Q: How does the email forwarding address work?
A forwarding address is not a separate email account. The incoming messages are only forwarded to the email account, which you have registered in My Alumni. You must therefore enter a valid email address in order to receive messages via the forwarding address. If your email address changes, just change the registered email address in MyAlumni.

Q: What happens to my old ETH email address?
The old student email address will be deleted within 6 months after your graduation from ETH and you can no longer be contacted via this address. ETH Alumni Association therefore offers all alumni the email forwarding address for free. Graduates who do not yet have such an email forwarding address can apply for one (see next question). Since the beginning of 2014, all new graduates have automatically received a forwarding address.

Q: What do I need to do to receive an email forwarding address?
As a member you will automatically receive an email forwarding address. Alumni who have completed their studies in previous years and do not yet have an ETH Alumni forwarding address can apply for it:

If you already have access data to the MyAlumni portal, you can easily enter your destination email address there. Please note that changes to the destination address will not take effect immediatily. The activation takes up to 24 hours.

Just sent us your data to or register for MyAlumni yourself. You will then receive the access data for the MyAlumni portal where you will find your email forwarding address.

Q: Can I log in to ETH Web-Outlook with the forwarding address?

No, that's not possible. The forwarding address only forwards emails, so you cannot receive emails directly.

Q: Where can I check my e-mails?
The alumni email forwarding address is a forwarding address only, so it does not have its own inbox. Instead, emails are forwarded directly to the registered destination address. The emails can therefore be retrieved via the inbox of the respective destination address.

Q: Email forwarding does not work.
Check your spam settings. It is possible that emails get stuck in your spam filter.

If you have recently changed your destination address in your profile on the myAlumni portal, it can take up to 24 hours for the changes to take effect.

Note: If you send an email from your destination address to your alumni address, it should have been sent to your destination address again. But, this function is disabled. Therefore, his type of test mail does not work.

Q: How much does ETH Alumni email forwarding cost?
As a member, the ETH Alumni Association offers you email forwarding for free.

Q: Why does ETH Zurich offer its alumni an email forwarding address?
The email forwarding address simplifies communication between alumni as well as between the ETH and their alumni. The email address is valid for the rest of your life, so there is no need to communicate changes of address (e.g. change of provider, etc.).

And besides: A personal email address with an @alumni.ethz.ch extension is simply better than a conventional provider address.

Q: Why do I need a lifelong email address?

Like a home address, the email address changes when the provider changes. When you are moving, you must inform friends, post offices, authorities, etc. The same applies when changing the email address: You have to inform all friends, you have to unsubscribe from mailing lists with the old address and subscribe again with the new one, you have to make the change in multiple email directories...
With a permanent and representative forwarding address, on the other hand, you only have to enter the valid destination address in a single location so that the incoming emails are forwarded correctly.

Change your destination address in your profile in MyAlumni.
